The Boards Event is an obstacle that appears in multiple chapters, and is an event in Build Mode. Most of the time, it will require the hammer to get through it, but in three other chapters, three different items have been used to take them down.
Appearance[]
The Boards Event comes in different forms, yet the most common one are one or two, thin, brown, wooden planks nailed on an (exit) door. One of the planks is nailed horizontally near the floor, while the one above it is tilted diagonally. Barricaded vents also have one of these boards nailed over them. In Mall, the boards were located on the exit door, yet they were much larger, and required the crowbar to take them down, instead of a hammer.

Barricaded Exits[]
In the first ten Book 1 chapters, Distorted Memory, The Safe Place, Docks, Temple, and Lab, the event appears directly on or in front of the escape door. By clicking on both boards with the hammer, or just touching them with the hammer out, you can get rid of the boards. In City, you need to feed Pony a Carrot for him to get rid of the board.
Barricaded Vents[]
In House, Gallery, and Distorted Memory, the event appears once more in those chapters as one board over a vent, and by clicking or touching the board with the hammer, you will be able to enter the vent.

Barricaded Walls[]
In chapters 2 - 4 in Book 1, the event appears multiple times, with one of them being a wooden wall. The wall still requires the hammer to destroy it.
In Factory, there is a wall that traps Baren, which can be destroyed with his axe.

Decay[]
In Decay, the boards can be removed by shooting them with the crossbow or chopping them with the axe.
