Not to be confused with its skin counterpart. |
Sentinels are creatures in Piggy: Book 2 that made their first appearance in Distraction as secondary bots, appearing again in Lab's second phase and the second phase of its Hidden Ending. They were also added as secondary bots to Plant during the RB Battles 3 Event, if the player attempts to get the ??? Badge. Finally, they were added as a hostile NPC in Build Mode.
Appearance
The Sentinels are a race of black creatures that have different colored glowing parts across their body. They have black dress-looking bodies wrapped with different colored protruding ribs and have black arms with gradually colored fingers and gray veins. They additionally have the same head and arm models as Umbra. Furthermore, they have colored nostrils and their right ear appears to be melted. There are seven known types of Sentinels: pink, red, blue, royal blue, green, white, and black.
Animations
Idle
Stands upright and looks down with downcast hands.
Walking
Almost the same as the idle animation, but with outstretched arms.
Jumpscare
Slides back then slides forward and stabs you with its claws.
Defeat
Falls into the ground while looking up and waving their arms around as they disappear, similar to an NPC Soldier's defeat animation in Outpost.
Trivia
- In Distraction and Build Mode, you can kill all the Sentinels with a pipe by touching them to avoid risk of getting attacked while being chased by the Piggy.
- This can also be done in Lab on Traitor if they are shot with the gun and in Build mode with any way of stunning them.
- Sometimes this doesn’t work or takes longer than usual, but the survivor can’t die to sentinels while holding the pipe. This does not apply to the pipe in Lab’s second phase or the Hidden Ending’s second phase.
- A similar occurrence appears in Plant, when you're holding Mrs. P's photo, Mr. P won't kill you.
- MiniToon confirmed that they are called Sentinels in a reply to one of his tweets stating that Axel_Glow made these models.
- This is further confirmed with the skin.
- They have a similar jumpscare animation to Mari, Piggy (Distorted), and Mr. Stitchy.
- Unlike other bots, the Sentinels do not follow you until you get within a certain range of them. This is a trait shared with the Refinery guards, the Ship crewmates and the Chasing Hand in Build Mode.
- The Sentinels' and Chasing Hand's behavior is unique in that they won't stop chasing you until you reach a certain distance, whereas the other two are mostly time based.
- The Sentinels follow you no matter where you are in Lab and phase 2 of the Hidden Ending, though.
- This is a toggleable setting in build mode for them to allow them to follow the closest survivor, or to wait until one is in range to chase them.
- The word "Sentinel" means guard. This may mean that the Sentinels are possibly protectors of TIO.
- It is unknown what happened to the Sentinels after TIO was defeated.
- MiniToon confirmed that the black Sentinel is called Shadow Sentinel when replying to a tweet, referring to it as "Shadow Sentinel".[1]
- Plant’s Sentinels from the RB Battles season 3 quest have green, royal blue and purple highlights each. These are likely meant to reference DJMonopoli, RussoPlays and SabrinaBrite respectively, the three hosts of RB Battles.
- There's another Sentinel, being the white one that spawns in the hallway with the alphabet code if you fail the code or if you take too much time. This doesn’t seem to reference anything and is simply there to prevent survivors from being able to stay alive in the area.
- The blue Sentinel has a more brighter appearance, making some people confuse it for cyan.
- According to Axel_Glow, Sentinels were actually modeled around the release of Factory and before Umbra, though they weren't used in the game until Distraction.[2]
- They were added in Build Mode on June 16th, 2024.
- They have a placement limit of ten in build mode.
- MiniToon jokingly stated in an interview that the white Sentinels tasted like brussel sprouts.
