"The military moved up north to work on a cure. I've heard this through radio broadcasts."
― Willow, Factory - Chapter 6
The Cure is the potion made by the military, specially designed for curing the symptoms of Substance - 128, a failed project in trying to cure the Linnaeoma disease.
History[]
Creation[]
During the infection, a military camp in the city of Doveport was working on a cure to defeat it. They had been working on the cure deep down in a lab beneath the camp. To test if the cure actually worked, the researchers needed one of the first victims to the infection, and the selected victim had been Penny Piggy, a teenager from Lucella. Once they brought Penny to the lab, they sealed her in a cylinder-shaped glass cage, and began their work. They began to reach success, as the level of aggressiveness on Penny had lowered, but during this time, however, the camp had been attacked by the infected, who seemingly just "came out of nowhere". Soldiers like Daisy, Delta, Porter, Mary, Ben, and Eloise had fallen. Meanwhile in the lab, Penny had broken free of the glass cage (presumably via teleportation, due to the effects from the Insolence), and began creating havoc among the scientists. A sample of the cure was then sealed in a room.
Hunt for the Cure[]
During the end of the feud between the Safe Place and T.S.P., Willow decided to help the Safe Place in search for the cure, since she knew where it was. Willow and the Safe Place then met Captain Budgey at a port, and she took them to Doveport, using her ship called the "Medora". When the group finally made it to the military camp, they fought through the infected and went down the elevator leading to the lab. Now in the lab, Willow and Tigry see each other again, and the two break out in a fight. The player then goes through various puzzles to retrieve the cure, where they find Willow and Tigry in front of it. Mimi then comes and says that there is something outside. A helicopter called "The Osprey" arrives, and the group is met by Sergeant Monroe. Monroe notices that they have the cure, and he takes them all with him but Tigry and Willow, who have chosen to explore together alone.
Trivia[]
- The cure only works in full doses, as confirmed by MiniToon.[1]
- He also implied that something different happens if someone isn't given a full dose, and that we might find out what happens in that situation in the future.
- Unlike Substance - 128, which is green in color, the cure is blue.
- In the post-credits cutscene of Hidden Ending, it is implied that the Safe Place members used the cure to cure Zizzy, as she is seen uninfected in that cutscene.
