The Insolence is a presumed group of individuals that worship/are under the control of a mysterious entity that is either referred to as 'The Eye' or 'The Insolence'. While not confirmed, it's implied that the leader and the one behind this group is TIO. The members supposedly worship The Eye while TIO sends out his followers to do his bidding, essentially working behind the scenes, only intervening directly when needed. Their purpose and origins are currently vague and unknown.
History
Early Days
Not much is known about the early days of the Insolence. However, we can determine that characters such as TIO and Mr. Stitchy were some of the first, based on notes and pictures in The Hunt. Mr. Stitchy, who is believed to have recruited TIO, did not like how he was slowly becoming more and more like him. It is believed some altercation between the two took place, resulting in TIO's banishment to the Insolence Mind. However, TIO is believed to have the ability of manipulation, using those who need a helping hand.
The Infection Rises
After the infection began, TIO took the opportunity at hand to recruit more members. TIO began recruiting members such as Elly, Alfis, Kolie, etc. to cause chaos in the outside world and recruit more people. While it is unknown when this first started to happen, we can determine it was at the very least sometime before City - Chapter 9, based on evidence that Elly is in the Insolence.
Encountering Pony
Sometime after Pony infected Doggy, TIO appeared in his mind, offering to see his family again. He declined, although TIO would continue to get in his mind.
Encountering Zizzy
After the events of Refinery, TIO took notice of Zizzy, believing that she could help him with her brave attitude. After she escaped, TIO appeared and offered to help her. After the two have a short conversation about TIO's past and Zee, TIO lets Zizzy and Pony have a short chat, where Zizzy apologizes to Pony. TIO once again offers Zizzy his help, and before she can accept, she is pulled away by an unknown entity.
Encountering The Player
Note: This is the Savior timeline only.
During the events of Piggy: Book 1 and Piggy: Book 2, TIO took notice of the Player, noticing that they were immune to the infection and had saved The Silver Paw at the Factory. TIO begins playing tricks on the Player in the School, when he causes them to pass out. Later down, in the Plant, TIO caused a hallucination of several locations the Player had been to.
Shortly after this, in Book 2, TIO began becoming more direct with the Player, whispering to them via the Insolence Eyes, calling their name. After some time, TIO finally revealed himself to the Player, and offered them to see their friends again. The Player declines, not trustworthy of him. TIO warns the Player that they will come back to him eventually.
After the Player finds the cure and helps out Tigry, his bombs begin to go off. Tigry, holding the cure, tells the Player and Pony to run to the exit, when he and the cure are trapped behind rubble. The Player and Pony begin running to the elevator, when it is also blocked off by rubble. Pony then reveals to the Player that he is infected, and the two have a final talk. TIO appears again, offering the Player help again. With no other options, they accept.
After the Player finds the radio, asks Mimi to fix it, and stops Willow and Tigry's fighting, Mimi tells the others that help has arrived. After a short chat outside with the military, TIO summons a large amount of infected from the ground to attack the survivors, and the Player is brought to the Insolence Mind. TIO mentions his disappointment about the Player. When the Player is about to interrupt TIO, he reveals his name.
TIO starts to talk about how the Player didn't heed to TIO's warning to follow the current path, since TIO is trying to 'save' everyone from themselves. TIO also mentions that free will is destructive, and free will is also what has destroyed the entire world, since Mr. P has destroyed the world due to free will, and that the cure the Player has will cause thousands of survivors to fight over it for their loved ones, and that many will lose in the battle. What the Player is doing with the cure, TIO says that the Player is causing a grand war in the entire world, and the grand war will not be with the infected, but with the Player's own brothers and sisters; survivors of the infection, hoping to cure their families and friends.
The Player disagrees with TIO, saying that the cure is hope for the future, and that it will cause the world to slowly retain its place like how it was prior to the infection. TIO starts to get angry, since the Player is, in his mind, too oblivious and cannot foresee the destruction of the future, and that TIO has no choice but to take out the Player himself. TIO then starts to turn into his distorted form, and the Player, Pony, Georgie and Zee are brought into TIO's distortion. the Player does puzzles in the distorted versions of the Alleys, Ship, Docks, Temple, and Camp. Another distortion comes over the Player, where hallucinations start to appear.
Pony is being attacked by his infected father, Peter, at the distorted City. At the distorted House, Georgie is about to fall from a high place, and below him is his distorted sister, Penny. At the distorted Safe Place, Zee is staring at an infected Zizzy. After giving weapons to Pony and Zee to knock out the hallucinations of Peter and Zizzy respectively and saving Georgie from the hallucination of Penny, TIO enters a rage state and immediately chases after the nearest player regardless of if he spotted a player beforehand. The Player then thinks of an idea that, since they're in their own memories, then they can use those memories against TIO, and then they boss-battle TIO. The Player goes up to the second level containing distorted versions of the Gallery, the Hospital, and the Mall and gives weapons to memories of Bunny, Doggy, and Zizzy to knock out TIO, while being chased by other memories created by TIO to stop the Player.
After being hit by the memories created by the Player, TIO is defeated, and the Player is brought back to reality. However, later on, the Insolence is shown to still be active, suggesting TIO might not be dead.Behavior
Recruiting Members
The simplest way to describe the Insolence would simply be a cult. Members of the Insolence have devoted themselves to "the Eye", likely being the eye seen on characters such as Kolie, Markus, Mr. Stitchy, TIO, etc. TIO, who appears to be the leader, plays tricks on people, causing them to get pursued by other members of the cult, showing hallucinations of their friends, among other things. Shortly after these events happen, TIO will appear in said persons mind, "teleporting" them to a black room with concrete on the floor, surrounded by purple portals. TIO will then offer the person a deal, usually bribing them with power, the ability to see their lost loved ones again, among other things.
If An Offer Is Declined
If an offer is declined, TIO will later continue to try to bribe the person, usually at a point even lower than the last encounter.
If An Offer Is Accepted
If an offer is accepted, TIO will put the person to no good. While it is possible for the Insolence members to control their bodies, as proven in the Player's Journal (Tigry Savior ending), the members will be forced to pursue other potential members, the same way they were once pursued.

Known Information
- When walking close to or interacting with one of these eyes on certain maps, loud whispering noises can be heard.
- The entity also can temporarily get into people's minds, such as Pony's. In the case of Pony, the Insolence has made him say a lot of strange things, such as in The Safe Place. They also whisper to him in voices. This may be a reference to the eye found on the bottom floor of the map.
- The eye is something supernatural, as it is able to control Pony into saying "The Insolence watches".
- There is a crumbled note found in the sewers stating: "LIGHT THE BEACON, SUMMON IT." This might have some strange implications about the group.
- This note is written in the format as the notes from the Spooky Hunt.
Speculation
- It is believed that TIO caused the events of Distorted Memory.
- There are a pair of red eyes in the backyard section, which could possibly be an early incarnation of the Insolence.
- MiniToon confirmed we have seen this character before.
- TIO has been proven to make Zizzy see similar hallucinations in Distraction, suggesting a connection.
- There are a pair of red eyes in the backyard section, which could possibly be an early incarnation of the Insolence.
Trivia
- Mr. Stitchy, Kolie, Markus and Delta have eyes that seem to somewhat resemble the Insolence eye. Piggy (Distorted) also does, though hers is in a more reddish color.
- It is possible there are different types of Insolence eyes, such as red on Penny, and white on Friend.
- The eyes usually are involved for some of the quests to obtain certain skins or traps.
- Clicking all the eyes in Port - Chapter 7 and knocking on a certain door will spawn Friend.
- Clicking all the eyes in Docks - Chapter 9 with the Candle will spawn the Crawling Trap.
- Clicking an Insolence eye in Camp - Chapter 11 will trigger the quest for Laura.
- All in all, there are 21 eyes scattered across the maps, in addition to 18 eyes on the Insolence members, making a total of 39 eyes across the series.
