Traitor is a gamemode in Piggy that was released on April 17th, 2020 to celebrate 1 billion total visits, along with the Devil and Giraffy skins.
Mechanic[]
A random player is secretly chosen to be the traitor. Instead of the default intro, you get a short scene of your avatar where the rules are explained. In Book 1, it's a room in House. In Book 2, it's a hallway in Lab. When the timer hits 8:59, you receive a knife that can be used to kill other players. The traitor can also use any equipped Traps that they have, overriding Abilities. There is also a bot that will still chase and kill you. The traitor can win by escaping or killing all innocents. Innocents can win by using the gun on the traitor, escaping, or the bot killing the traitor.
Tips[]
As a Survivor[]
As a survivor, some tricks to win are:
- Get the gun ASAP - The gun can be used to shoot the traitor, thus ending the game and resulting as a win for the survivors. Be careful, however, if you shoot an innocent player, they will turn into a Piggy. In Metro, however, you use Bunny's crossbow instead of the gun. Once you obtained the gun/crossbow, it immediately gives you 2 rounds of Ammo to fire or 2 carrots to fire. Due to the ability to have immediate access to the crossbow, it's best just to fire the weapon at the other players. Even if two innocents are hit, that’s two more infected that can kill the traitor. Remember that you need to be really quick because the traitor can be quick to sabotage a round.
- To avoid letting anybody think that you are the traitor by accident, grab the gun, crossbow or their respective ammunition. A speech bubble showing the gun will appear above your head to players with Show Friendly Items on, letting other survivors tell that you are not the traitor and thus prevents you from getting attacked as traitors cannot pick up firearms or their ammo.
- Watch other players carefully - The traitor can place traps (at all times) and cannot wield a weapon until a minute after the round starts. Watch the other players carefully, there's always a chance you may see the traitor place a trap or suspiciously follow another player.
- Lure players to the bot - Another way to win as a survivor is by having the Bot kill the traitor. If someone you happen to think is the traitor, try getting the bot to chase you, lure them to the player who you think is the traitor, and see if you can get the bot to chase and kill them. Be careful with this though, as the bot is generally avoidable and the traitor may even use it against you.
- Don't trust ANYBODY. The ones you trust might be the traitor. You don't know.
- However, if you see a player with a Gun, Crossbow, Ammo, or Carrot you can trust them since the Traitor cannot pick these items up. Any player who uses an ability can also be considered innocent as the traitor cannot use abilities.
- You should also have one of these items as well, as otherwise that player might think that you're the traitor and shoot you, turning you into a Piggy.
- However, if you see a player with a Gun, Crossbow, Ammo, or Carrot you can trust them since the Traitor cannot pick these items up. Any player who uses an ability can also be considered innocent as the traitor cannot use abilities.
- Keep a safe distance from other players. This ensures less of a chance of being near the traitor. If someone is oddly getting close to you or someone else, it’s best to keep your guard up.
- When you see other players, go in another direction. They might be the traitor.
- Some starting cutscenes could be shorter, and the Traitor has a long cutscene, so they may stand still a little longer than other players. Remember that the Traitor can still move a few seconds before the traitor cutscene ends.
- This could also be the other way around where the Traitor's cutscene is shorter and you can see them moving before the other players.
- If you get shot and respawn as a Piggy, wait until the traitor attacks someone. Then kill them mid-jumpscare.
As the Traitor[]
As the traitor, some tricks to win are:
- NEVER run around with your knife - Running with your knife out is the deadliest giveaway that you're the traitor, and if the Player that saw you has the gun/crossbow, you'll most likely be shot and lose.
- On multiple maps, the gun is accessed by using the Purple Key to unlock the Purple Safe. Although you can't grab the gun to protect it, try to get your hands on the purple key before someone else does so that no one can open the purple safe and shoot you with the gun. This does have one downside and that is that people will become suspicious, but they cannot act on their suspicions if they do not have the gun. (This does not apply to maps such as Port and Lab.)
- Try to single out someone - By singling someone out, and then pulling out your knife to kill them, you're still keeping your image clean to the other players, as the only player who saw your knife is now dead, although you might want to worry a bit as they can call you out once they're dead, but most of the time, some people just stay quiet spectating the round or just leave the game.
- Avoid using traps in proximity to others - Traps are placed on the ground where the placer has placed it. Traps also make a sound, and they can give away your role if nobody is around you when you place the trap.
- Try avoiding your own traps - Traitor is invulnerable to their own traps but walking though one unharmed is a dead giveaway to any players that see you. Instead, try to jump over traps you’ve placed or circle around them. It may be harder to fake with traps such as Snowpiggy Trap and Crawling Trap.
- Be mindful of Piggy, and who has the gun - You can lose if Piggy kills you or a player with a weapon shoots you with it. You'll have to avoid them altogether, as you can't kill them, but you can kill a player, including one with a gun.
- Act as normal as possible. - Faking being a new player or anything along those lines can make players suspicious. Act like a normal player trying to escape, maybe even unlock some things for them which open perfect areas to trap players in.
- Blame other players - If you kill someone, look for another player and say they're the traitor. If done right, the entire server will accuse that person, leaving you free to kill more players.
- DON'T follow players immediately when you get the knife, as doing so will make you look like the traitor. - Instead, act like you're a normal survivor getting all the keys (even hold the key or another item out to not look like the traitor). But when you are close to a player that isn't suspecting you, that's when you get your knife out and kill them, they won't notice your action of taking the knife out to kill them, so they won't run away from you or shoot you.
- If you don’t care for escaping, isolate or gatekeep key items to prevent or halt map completion.
- If someone is trying to get the bot to kill you, you can jump, place a trap and they could walk into it and get killed by the bot. You can try to kill them yourself but it’s quite risky as the bot can attack you while you’re in the stab pause.
- You can also try to escape while keeping your role a secret. You can get 30 Tokens from escaping, which is double the amount survivors get (15). This bonus also stacks with the 2x tokens game pass.
Trivia[]
- Traitor’s name in Sketchy is "Traitor aka sketch".
- The Traitor's knife can be placed in Build Mode, this means that anyone who grabs it will become a traitor and will be able to kill others, however, they will not be able to set traps and can't be killed by the Gun.
- If two players with the knife kill each other, in the middle of the animation, they will die. This is due to both player's hitboxes colliding at the same time.
- In Build Mode maps, you will get the knife after Piggy has woken up.
- In maps that don't normally have a gun/crossbow on them, the gun spawns somewhere on the map.
- This does not apply to Temple.
- Bots target Traitors like normal, as they are technically still survivors, or it would've been obvious who the traitor is.
- The traitor has the same knife as Foxy.
- The traitor also utilizes the same killing animation.
- The stabbing audio can be found in the Roblox Audio Library.[1]
- Some of Mansion’s item interactions don’t work properly as the traitor. Additionally, the map is brighter than usual since the traitor doesn’t see the darkness the survivors do.
- If the traitor is trying to kill the shooter, and the shooter is trying to shoot the traitor, there's a chance that both of them will die at the same time. This can only occur if both people are very close to each other.
- Innocents who are shot and turned infected cannot use their traps. Traitor and Infection are the only modes where the infected can’t use traps.
- This, Bot, Swarm and Tag are the only modes where a player can't be selected as Piggy.
- However, players can still be a Piggy on this mode via being shot as a survivor.
- MiniToon ran a poll on Twitter when Swarm was about to be added asking if he should remove the bot in Traitor. The voters decided to keep the bot.[2]
- If you pick Traitor mode for Lab, the traitor doesn't receive the short intro during the beginning of the round, meaning they won't know it's them unless they notice that they have traps or that they get a knife at the 8:59 mark.
- Currently there is a bug in Traitor where if a player shoots the gun or crossbow in first person they have a chance to shoot themselves turning them into a piggy.
- If you have a Show Friendly Items enabled while being a traitor, the knife icon will not appear above your head.
- This is to prevent a traitor from being identified easily.
- If this game mode is selected on Distorted Memory, Heist, Distraction, or Mansion and you are the Traitor, instead of your avatar, you will see whoever you're playing as but the text will still show your username is talking instead of either Georgie, Willow, Pony, Zizzy, Zee, or Zuzy.
- This mode was formerly required to obtain Bela, but was later changed.
- Traitor's variant in Sketchy is the only gamemode in the game to not have a color overlay on the thumbnail.
- The server owner of Build mode is able to select who the Traitor will be but this can not be done with commands in the main game.
