Traps are a game mechanic in Piggy. They can be used by infected players, the Traitor and certain Book 2 bots to impede progression of survivors.
Function
Traps are placed by the Piggy or Traitor (except the Insolence and Spike traps, both being map hazards) as means of stopping players from progressing and aiding in killing them. Every trap except the Teleporter will harm a survivor who comes into contact with it, usually stunning them though traps can have various effects. When used by an infected player or Traitor, traps cost Energy depending on the kind of trap. Every usable trap except the Teleporter has a ‘lifespan’ when placed by a player, indicated by a yellow bar above the trap only visible to Piggy. The trap will despawn when this yellow bar runs out. Most traps also despawn when activated. An infected player can have three kinds of traps equipped at a time, which can be placed by clicking their icons present next to the Energy Bar. On console, traps can be placed using d-pad down, d-pad right and d-pad up for the bottom, middle and top traps respectively (though these shortcuts are currently broken), as well as manually clicking the icons through menu select.
Bots in every Book 2 chapter from Sewers onwards (with the exceptions of Ombra in Breakout, Duocara in Mansion and most secondary bots) can place traps. They are as follows in the format of ‘Chapter - Bot(s), trap type used’:
- Sewers - Alfis, default
- Factory - Kolie and Willow, default
- Port - Dakoda, default
- Ship - Archie, default
- Docks - Markus, default
- Temple - Spidella, slow
- Camp - Delta, big
- Lab - Piggy (Distorted), default
- Heist - Poley, default
- Distraction - Twins, default
The Insolence Traps in Lab’s Hidden Ending could be considered to be ‘owned’ by TIO due to their direct effect to him when activated.

Trivia
- On December 8th, 2024, the trap mesh was archived, making most traps which reuse the default trap's model invisible. This was fixed the next day.
- The Teleporter is the only trap that affects the Piggy rather than the players. The Insolence Trap is the only trap that affects both.
- You would need 1490 Piggy Tokens to get all of the traps.
- The Winter Holiday re-release that got scrapped in favor of Distorted Holiday changed Frostiggy to a patrol bot who placed Slow Storm Traps [1]. This would’ve made Frostiggy the only bot to use a trap skin instead of a trap’s default form.
- Although considered as Obstacles, the Insolence and Spike Traps are the only unusable traps in the game. However, the Spike Trap can be used by builders editing in Build Mode.
- The Insolence Trap is also the only trap to directly affect the Bot.
- The d-pad shortcuts for traps didn't work on console. This was especially odd considering how Abilities use the same energy mechanic and shortcuts but worked just fine.
- In the 7/4/2023 update, an attempt was made to fix the d-pad trap shortcuts for console users. This didn't fix them.
- In the 4/19/2024 update, they were finally fixed.
- In the 7/4/2023 update, an attempt was made to fix the d-pad trap shortcuts for console users. This didn't fix them.
